I am so excited about the upcoming Yoga Journal Conference that will be taking place in New York City from May 12th – 16th 2011. Maya Breuer will be a featured instructor at the event.
I told Maya that I wanted to introduce and / or remind people of her. Additionally, I asked Ms. Beuer how she would you like to be described. She responded that she liked the way she was described in the Yoga Journal Magazine article as “Yogi To The People”
Here is an excerpt from the interview in the article:

Today I incorporate those into my teaching, which includes people from all cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, races, ages, and philosophies as well as people coping with chronic illness, stress, and behavioral challenges.
Why did you launch the Yoga Retreat for Women of Color? I wanted to introduce minority women to the healing benefits of yoga practice, provide them with an outlet for their stress, and teach them ancient wisdom. Each retreat attracts women from all ethnicities. It’s my firm belief that the awareness and skills one derives through yoga practice will greatly benefit the black American community. (Read more)
