A bell-ringing ceremony recalling Dr. King’s life and work is set for Friday morning on state government’s Bicentennial Plaza.The Bell-Ringing and State Employees’ Martin Luther King Observance Program. gets underway at 11:55 a.m. Members of the N.C. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission will initiate the bell-ringing tribute before the State Employees’ Observance Program, which will get under way at noon at First Baptist Church, 99 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh.

Johnson, Jr. Dr. Johnson, a social entrepreneur, has spent the past two decades examining and testing strategies for successfully educating children who live in areas of concentrated poverty. Dr. Johnson is the William R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Director of the Urban Investment Strategies Center at UNC-Chapel Hill.
